Share Your Dream for Wave Poetry Contest Honors Martin Luther King Jr. and FAIRNESS

Share Your Dream For WavePACE Partner, The Splash, has issued a challenge in its youth column, “The Wave,” to local students to write an acrostic* poem to share their dreams.

The poetry contest honors Martin Luther King Jr. who we celebrate this month, and whose dream was that all people — regardless of skin color, race, religious beliefs or other differences – would enjoy the same freedoms and be treated with FAIRNESS (January PACE Character Trait of the Month).

Students in kindergarten through sixth grade who live or attend school in the Valley area are eligible to enter. Submissions must be received by Jan. 17. The winning entry will be awarded a $5 gift certificate to Just Chillin’ in Liberty Lake.

Check out page 17 of the January 2014 Issue of The Current for more details.

Acrostic poems are a style of poem in which the first letter, syllable or word of each line, paragraph or other recurring feature in the text spells out a word or a message. Below is an example:

Shines brightly
Up in the sky
Nice and warm on my skin
